We’ve only had the Sebo X8 for a short time, but so far we are impressed. We just replaced a Miele upright that was about 12 years old. The cleaning power of the Sebo is great. And for an upright, the vacuum is surprisingly quiet. After trying a cheap bagless vacuum, we realized that the 40-foot cord is a must. The absolute best feature is the 15-inch cleaning path. Makes quicker work of every room. There are concerns online about using the Sebo on hard surfaces since there is no brush roll control to turn it on and off. We haven’t had any issues, but we primarily use the Sebo on the carpeted areas and let the robot clean the tile. We haven’t tried it, but there is also a softer brush roll available that many say is better suited for hard floor use. We were a bit concerned about the maneuverability coming from the swivel-steer Miele. But the vacuum is very easy to navigate. The machine is relatively heavy, but with nearly all of the weight in the floor nozzle, the vacuum actually feels pretty light while cleaning. The automatic height adjustment is a nice feature but takes a minute to get used to. To make vacuuming easier, it’s necessary to wait a few seconds for the vacuum to adjust as opposed to just turn on and go. The onboard tools are stored well. The extension hose comes out and retracts easily. It’s easy to switch between using the wand or just the hose with an attachment. The Sebo is not as sturdy while using the hose as with the Miele. The Miele hose extended from the floor and could be locked in place. The Sebo hose extends from the top and you mostly need to hold the machine in place while using the hose or it is prone to tipping. The attachments are fine and work as expected. We haven’t had any need for maintenance yet, but the accessibility of all of the parts -- like being able to remove the brush roll in seconds -- is a new concept to us. Most high-end vacuums require being serviced by an authorized dealer. Sebo has made part changes and repairs very user friendly. At this point, our only complaint is the handle. For a $1200 machine, it’s disappointing that the Sebo has a cheap, slippery, plastic handle. Comparatively, the Miele has a contoured, triangular, soft grip handle that made the vacuum very easy to hold and control. We haven’t tried it yet, but we just added silicone grip tape to the Sebo handle to see if that makes a difference. It certainly seems to feel better in the hand, but we’ll see how it holds up during use. It will take a few weeks or months to decide if the Sebo is worth the purchase, but overall we are currently pleased with its performance. If we get 10 plus years out of this vacuum, then we would absolutely consider the purchase a success.
